What Is the Direct Indie Partnership?

A simpler way to release music on Opulent if you're an independent artist who isn't affiliated with any collection society. You keep 100% ownership of your music. We distribute it, handle the money, and pay you your share.

The Short Version

? You own your music 100%. We don't own it or register it with anyone.

— 70% of every sale goes to you. 30% stays with Opulent as a platform fee.

— No collection society involved. Your royalties are handled directly between you and us.

— If a collection society comes after us because of your music, that's on you — you cover the costs.

— If you register with a collection society later, tell us 30 days in advance.

Do I Qualify?

You qualify if all of the following are true:

You are not a member of SAMRO, CAPASSO, SAMPRA, or any other collection society
You own 100% of the music you're uploading (recording, lyrics, melody)
You are not under any record label or publishing contract covering this music
You have no samples that require third-party clearance (or you have written permission)

Registered Artist vs Direct Indie Partnership

SAMRO / collection-society registered

You're welcome on Opulent as a listener and subscriber — stream, download, and buy other artists' music. But you cannot upload or sell your own music here, because we don't pay collection-society licensing fees.

Direct Indie Partnership

For independent artists not registered with any collection society. No reporting to SAMRO/CAPASSO/SAMPRA. Opulent handles everything directly. Same 70/30 split. No PRO registration required.

What If I Register With SAMRO Later?

Notify us in writing within 7 days of registering. Then either:

We remove your music to avoid copyright conflicts with your collection society, or
We renegotiate the 70/30 split to account for statutory fees your collection society will expect

What If a Collection Society Claims My Music?

Since you've confirmed you're not affiliated with any collection society, you're taking on the risk that one might come after us. If SAMRO (or anyone else) sends us a bill, fine, or legal demand because of your music, you agree to cover 100% of those costs.
